At a certain point, often in our 40s or 50s, money starts to take on a different meaning. It’s no longer just about budgeting for holidays or paying the bills.
There’s a growing awareness that retirement isn’t some distant concept anymore; it’s a real stage of life that needs planning. And with that shift comes a bigger question: how do I use the money I have, and the money I’ll earn, to build a life that feels balanced, intentional and fulfilling?
That’s where a Life Balance Consultation can really help. It’s a chance to pause, take stock, and reflect on the bigger picture.
Before diving into spreadsheets or specific financial goals, this session helps you explore what a successful life looks like for you and how money fits into that vision.
For some people, it brings clarity on priorities. For others, it provides a stepping stone into coaching without needing to commit to a full programme straight away. It’s not about solving everything in one go, but it can be a powerful way to get clear on what matters and where to start.
What does a Life Balance Consultation look like?
A Life Balance Consultation is a 90-minute session where we take a step back from the numbers and look at the bigger picture. It’s a space to reflect on where you are now, what’s feeling in or out of balance, and what a fulfilling future might look like.
We’ll usually start by working through the Wheel of Life, a simple but powerful tool that helps you consider your overall life satisfaction across areas like work, health, relationships, and personal growth. If you’d like to explore this in advance, you can read more about it in this earlier blog post.
From there, we turn to the Wheel of Money, which brings the same reflective approach to your finances. You’ll be invited to score your satisfaction in key areas such as:
- Monthly budgeting
- Emergency savings
- The financial impact of death or poor health
- Debts and mortgages
- Property, investments and pensions
- Financial goals for the future
- Your legacy
This isn’t about getting everything “right” or perfect. It’s about identifying what feels strong, what needs attention, and what’s most important to you as you look ahead.
This process helps bring clarity to what you’d like coaching to achieve. By reflecting on both life and money in a structured way, it becomes easier to see where coaching could make the biggest difference.
Who’s it for (and who’s it not for?)
A Life Balance Consultation can be especially helpful for those who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin. If you know something needs to shift, but you’re not quite clear what that is, this session offers a supportive space to reflect and prioritise.
It’s often a good fit for people who are at a crossroads, maybe wondering whether they need practical financial guidance, deeper coaching support, or even regulated financial advice.
By exploring both life satisfaction and financial wellbeing, the session can highlight where the real need lies. Sometimes, that might be about habits, mindset or priorities. Other times, it reveals more technical questions around pensions, investments or inheritance. Either way, you’ll come away with greater clarity on what kind of support will serve you best.
While it’s a valuable starting point for many, a Life Balance Consultation isn’t right for everyone. If you already have a clear financial goal in mind, you may prefer to dive straight into a focused coaching package.
This session is less about quick wins or number-crunching, and more about taking time to reflect, visualising where you want to get to, and prioritising the milestones that will get you there.
What will you gain from it?
Clarity. That’s the biggest outcome for most people.
Many clients arrive at this session unsure what kind of support they need. Is it a focused coaching session to sort out one particular area of personal finance? Or a more holistic programme to work through bigger changes? Or is it time to put a long-term financial plan in place?
A Life Balance Consultation helps you make sense of that uncertainty.
By stepping back and looking at both your life and money in the round, the session brings clarity not just on what a good outcome could look like, but also on the steps it might take to get there.
That could mean identifying specific financial goals, noticing patterns that are keeping you stuck, or recognising which areas of life need more attention. Clients often describe a sense of relief, even excitement, at finally being able to see a way forward.
You’ll also get a feel for what coaching is really like. It’s a conversation without judgement, pressure or jargon. There’s no agenda, and no push to buy anything. Just space to talk things through and feel properly heard, perhaps for the first time in a while.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer sense of what support feels right for you. It could be one of my financial coaching or planning packages, or something else entirely.
If you’re unsure, I can help you weigh up the options so that any next step feels informed and aligned with what you want to achieve.
In some cases, it may become clear that regulated financial advice is what’s really needed. If so, I can guide you through what to consider and how to find a financial adviser who feels like the right fit.
Why do I offer this service?
One of the strange things about traditional financial advice is that it often focuses too much on the money. It tends to start with the numbers, income, savings, pensions, without first stepping back to consider the life someone wants those numbers to support.
The Life Balance Consultation offers a more holistic starting point. One that acknowledges both the practical and emotional sides of money, and how it threads its way through all aspects of life.
This session gives you the space to think beyond financial products or plans, and instead ask: What do I want life to feel like? What’s important to me? What’s getting in the way?
Only then does it make sense to look at how money can support those goals.
Could a Life Balance Consultation be right for you?
A Life Balance Consultation isn’t about fixing everything in one go. It’s about taking time to reflect and shape a financial future that feels clearer and more intentional.
If you’re unsure where to start, or even what kind of support you might need, this session can bring a real sense of clarity and direction. It costs £150 as a standalone session, or it’s included as the first session within my coaching and planning packages if we agree that’s the right path for you from the outset.
And it always starts with a free 30-minute initial chat. This is a chance to talk things through, ask questions, and get a feel for whether we would work well together.
If that sounds helpful, I’d love to hear from you.
