Imagine that you’ve completed an initial phase of work to get your finances in order, perhaps through an initial coaching package or a detailed financial plan. It feels like great progress, but real transformation doesn’t happen overnight. Life shifts and priorities evolve. That’s where ongoing financial coaching can strengthen your momentum with money knowledge and behaviours. It’s a phase of lower intensity work with regular check-ins for continued guidance and accountability.
Why one-off support isn’t always enough
It’s likely that, initially, you’ll come to financial coaching with a specific goal in mind. It could be to gain clarity on your situation; build a financial plan; understand pensions and investments or change your thoughts and emotions around money.
That initial support often provides exactly the breakthrough you need. But what tends to surface, is the realisation that money isn’t something you “fix” once and forget about. It’s woven into every part of life – and life keeps moving.
Ongoing coaching offers the gentle accountability you may need to stay on track and keep building those habits over the long term. It could be about embedding new behaviours, or maybe you’ve created a spending plan, but need support sticking to it, especially when emotions creep in or motivation dips.
It can also be about navigating the next chapter. You might have started investing for the first time, but feel unsure how to stay the course. Having someone walk alongside you, to check in, or talk things through when you’re tempted to deviate from the plan can be incredibly reassuring.
Even with a detailed lifetime cashflow model, life rarely follows a straight line. Income and spending changes, goals evolve and markets fluctuate.
Individuals and couples who’ve completed this kind of planning often find huge value in revisiting their model annually. This ensures the numbers can be updated, but also enables reflection on whether priorities have shifted.
In short, one-off support can spark change, but ongoing coaching helps you keep going through all the twists and turns of life.
Who is ongoing financial coaching for?
Ongoing financial coaching adds value once you’ve already taken the first steps toward financial clarity. It’s about continued support to build on that foundation.
Individuals and couples will usually have completed an initial coaching package. But as financial awareness grows, so does the realisation there’s more to explore.
New topics crop up, unwanted behaviours are identified and many come to recognise the value of having an accountability partner. Having someone to check in with by email or WhatsApp between sessions make all the difference.
Occasionally, some clients come to this stage after a single Life Balance Consultation. This is a 90-minute session that helps you to visualise what you’d like to be different about your life and your finances, before identifying what steps to priortise. You may already be well organised with money, but would benefit from having a confidential, non-judgemental space to share ideas and talk things through. In this case, ongoing coaching might look like quarterly sessions to continue making steady progress without feeling like you have to go it alone.
This service is ideal for those who value having a trusted sounding board. Someone who understands the emotional and practical sides of money, and can help navigate the decisions, wobbles, and opportunities that life inevitably throws up.
Ongoing coaching isn’t about starting from scratch, but building on the momentum you’ve already achieved. It’s less intense than an initial package of sessions, but still purposeful. A gentle nudge and a thoughtful conversation. A space to keep growing.
What about ongoing financial planning?
Completing a comprehensive financial plan with lifetime cashflow modelling is a major milestone. It offers a powerful visual of your financial future and helps you make decisions with clarity and confidence.
But even the best plan is built on assumptions: future income, spending, inflation, investment returns, life goals. And as we all know, life rarely sticks to the script.
That’s why many clients choose to continue with annual financial planning support. It’s about checking in, updating the numbers, and asking the bigger questions: Is this still what I want? Have my priorities changed? Am I still on track for the lifestyle I’ve imagined?
These annual updates keep your plan relevant. We revisit key assumptions, reflect on any significant life changes, and adjust your model accordingly. It’s a chance to stress-test different scenarios, explore new ideas, and ensure your financial decisions continue to support the life you want.
For some, this is the perfect complement to ongoing coaching. For others, it’s a stand-alone annual review that provides structure, focus, and peace of mind.
What does it look like and how much does it cost?
Ongoing financial coaching typically means monthly or quarterly sessions, each lasting an hour. These are ideal for staying on track, or simply having a regular space to reflect and reset.
In between, I offer light-touch accountability and guidance via email or WhatsApp. Whether you need help thinking through a decision, updating your numbers, or just a gentle nudge in the right direction, it keeps the momentum going between sessions.
If you’ve completed a financial planning package with lifetime cashflow modelling, I’d suggest an annual review package as a minimum. This is delivered over two sessions: 2 x 60-minute meetings for individuals or 2 x 90-minute sessions for couples.
Together, we revisit your life priorities, reflect on what’s changed over the past year, and update your financial plan and cashflow model to keep it relevant and meaningful. This package also includes ongoing access to Voyant, the lifetime cashflow software we use to map your financial future. This allows you to view and interact with your plan between reviews
Some clients benefit most from a blended package of coaching and planning. This suits those who want the structure of an annual review, but also value more frequent support throughout the year.
For individuals, this includes 4 x 60-minute sessions annually; for couples, 2 x 60-minute coaching sessions and 2 x 90-minute planning meetings. This package also includes ongoing access to Voyant, so you can explore your financial plan with confidence at any time.
Packages are flexible and tailored to fit your needs. The ongoing support options outlined above are currently priced between £40 and £115 per month, depending on the level of support and complexity involved. Full details will be set out on my website soon.
